Dream Control pairs up two pioneers of synthesizer music, Zeus B. Held and Steve Schroyder. Both musicians can trace their careers back to the early 70’s when Held played in the French prog rock group Eruption and the German outfit Birth Control, while Schroyder formed the art band Turning Free and played in Tangerine Dream on the early releases Alpha Centauri and Zeit.

Zeus B. Held would go on to team up with Gina X Performance, producing the 1979 queer dance classic “No GDM,” which would launch him into his role as a producer and collaborator with synth-pop artists like Dead or Alive, John Foxx, and Men Without Hats. (For a more complete picture of Held, check out The Electricity Club‘s A Beginner?s Guide To ZEUS B HELD). For his part, Schroyder would eventually move on from Tangerine Dream to briefly join Ash Ra Temple, later becoming involved in the 90’s with psychedelic-infused and Trance-leaning projects like Star Sounds Orchestra and Acid Test.

Look for Dream Control to release their debut LP Zeitgeber via Seattle’s Medical Records on September 29th. The label reports that the album’s six tracks blend structured composition with improvised elements while also featuring the throat singing of Kolja Simon and Felix Mönnich (AlienVoices). An undeniably unique blend of elements, Zeitgeber finds the duo exploring cosmic melodies, and propulsive rhythms.

Time Out” exudes an air of mystery as swirling pads of neon mist uncover mercury pools of undulating low-end. The perfect soundtrack for a night drive, imagine heading to an off-planet liaison only to find government agents on your tail. Transporting stolen hardware across interplanetary lines with a record as spotty as yours is sure to earn 5-10 years hard labor at some Lunar Correctional Unit, so put some distance between you and the Heat before you find yourself dreaming for the State again.
