Let’s finish the week with an electric dose of Acid out of The Netherlands…Garçon Taupe has been kicking around the Dutch music scene since 2001. Having played bass in the noise rock band Gone Bald from 2002 till 2007, he has also contributed tracks to compilation albums on labels like Narrominded, Esc.rec., and TopNotch, as well as having released a split LP with Legowelt back in 2009. Later this month the artist will put out his limited edition 12″ The White Spider via Enfant Terrible/Gooiland Elektro.
Today we check out the track “Crevasse“, the lead cut from the EP’s B-side. The label reports that the four tracks on the upcoming effort are all about the Acid, and this offering does not disappoint as it straddles shadier more introspective regions as well as extroverted party terrain. “Crevasse” opens with an air of eerie tension while an icy hi-hat marks the speedy passage of time. Soon the dry knock of a wooden kick drum adds to the feeling that things might not be quite “all right” here, before a reverberating clap signals thru the dark that, indeed, the party’s this way! As a splattering back beat ramps up, we hear the first bubblings of an acid line echoing from a far room, and with that as our spectral guide, we follow the sounds across the darkness until Garçon Taupe unleashes a ripping bassline that ping-pongs with teeth grinding funk.
Look for Enfant Terrible/Gooiland Elektro to release Garçon Taupe’s The White Spider 12″ in a limited edition of 200 with hand screened sleeves later this month. An exact release date has yet to be announced, so keep your ears peeled and check the label, here.
