Karger Traum is an electronic duo from Oklahoma City, and on October 20th they will release their Such A Dream cassette via the Atlanta-based label DKA Records. Comprised of members Blake Lusk and Taylor McKenzie, the pair first began working together when Lusk invited McKenzie to provide improvised vocals for his solo project, Holy Siege. Singing in German provided just the right vibe, and the two forged ahead as Karger Traum releasing their 4-song EP Alles Auf Einmal in 2016.
“Familienlied” is our first listen in on their newest effort, Such A Dream. Opening with a sinister, insect-like hum and an anxiously arpeggiating bassline, Mckenzie’s vocals bring a strident edge to the track as a snare icily marks the backbeat. About halfway in, orchestral synths bloom open adding soaring strings and silvery pinpoints of melody from deep within the maelstrom. The video for the cut was directed by Trey Millward, and it features extensive footage of Lusk and McKenzie. Filmed at some abandoned warehouse-like space, the video pairs bleak industrial imagery with smoky shots of the duo surrounded by a slew of their instruments and gear.
After the video embed you can find the album cover artwork for Such A Dream, as well as a track listing for the upcoming cassette.
