Swedish techno producer Anthony Linell is getting set to release his 3-track Layers of Reality EP on November 27th via Northern Electronics. Having worked under the moniker Abdulla Rashim for many years, as well as Lundin Oil, this year the artist began putting out music under his own name. With two LPs already under his belt in 2017, Emerald Fluorescents and Consolidate, Linell adds the Layers of Reality EP to his busy year of music making.
The EP’s title track kicks things off with a galloping and hypnotic groove. In recent years the producer’s music has gained a hyper-focus, and “Layers of Reality” displays Linell’s minimalist take on machine-driven techno. With a run-time over seven minutes, the musician’s focus is on subtly shifting sonic details. Utilizing a sparse and monochromatic palette, Linell patiently unfolds this bouncing groove before phasing it into slowly shifting patterns. Even with these textures of Acid House filtering thru, though, Linell’s attention is on the long haul. Never deviating from his initial arpeggiating refrain, the producer concentrates its’ energy into a mantra-like force capable of delivering kinetic bliss.
