Seattle duo The Blue Hour have a brand new video for “On The Wall,” the second single off their recently released LP Always. Comprised of the husband and wife team Brian and Marselle Hodges, the band has seen several incarnations since Brian founded it as a “neo-folk/ambient project” back in 1993. With two albums on the European label Perun, 2001’s Evensong and 2003’s The Windless Path, the project had been dormant until 2016 when Brian began working again on new songs as a way of teaching his daughter the craft. Those efforts resulted in the single “One More Mystery,” and it would end up launching Brian and Marselle on the path to recording their newest LP effort. Recorded between December of 2016 and June of 2017, Always is co-written and performed by the duo and it includes performances from strings player Maria Grig on the tracks “One More Mystery,” “Block the Sound,” and “Lost Landmarks.”

On The Wall” shimmers with a hypnotic pulse as bell-like notes tremble in metallic tones. With the track’s different percussive elements set in spatial relief through various levels of reverb, Marselle’s cascading vocals have a magnetic pull capable of leading the listener out into this cut’s dark, nighttime waters. The video for the track is directed by Carl Andrén. Based out of Gothenburg, Sweden, the young animator incorporates his childhood love of drawing with a lo-fi blur of glitched images. Hand-drawn sketches of a young woman appear over a tangle of blooming flowers, random news footage, and various other kinds of colorfully mesmerizing imagery.
