Label News: Black Marble Collective to Release Mel G’s The Light LP

The LA-based Black Marble Collective, founded by STVY RVRE, hooked up with Brooklyn DJ/producer Mel G this month to release his The Light LP. As a member of the Teklife crew and one half of the duo Tripletrain with DJDBK, Mel G has spread his love of Footwork, Juke, and Ghetto House to fans in NYC since 2012. In addition, his Brooklyn club night Low Key has hosted seminal artists from the Juke/Footwork genres including Traxman, RP Boo, and DJ Spinn–as well as the scene’s rising stars like DJ Earl, DJ Manny and DJ Taye–to name a few. The Light is Mel G’s first solo LP and its’ ten tracks are an excellent introduction to his bass driven work in these styles. The album features solo tracks, as well as collaborations with Footwork producers like DJ Earl, Hank, Nikes, and Durban.

The Black Marble Collective is looking to release Mel G’s The Light on 180-gram white vinyl with a limited pressing of 200 copies. The purchase will include the album in MP3 and WAV format. This is the first time BMC has ever released anything on vinyl, and the label will need to secure pre-orders for the album in the next forty days to get this done. In addition, look for Mel G to perform as part of Black Marble Collective’s 3rd annual unofficial SXSW #HyperlinkPartyATX at Lit Lounge this Wednesday night in Austin. Doors are from 1 pm until 2 am, and the event will feature over 28 performing artists throughout the day and night. You can RSVP the event here.
