Watch: R A D K O “Orgon”

The mysterious Italian duo R A D K O returns this week with a new video for “Orgon,” a previously unreleased track set to come out on vinyl via Enfant Terrible sometime in 2019. We last heard from the band back in January when they put out their limited edition Cherno PPP / Brutalista 7″ via the label. Helmed by Angelo Mauro and Riccardo Cammalleri, R A D K O’s music hovers somewhere between Cold Wave and Shoegaze and always seems to be infused by a haunting ambiance.

Chilly organ tones open “Orgon,” a track whose title might reference the village in the South of France which harbors a 19th-century monastery overlooking the Durance valley, as well as the ruins of a Templar castle. Or maybe the track refers to “orgone,” the esoteric life-force energy hypothesized by the psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich. Both references would seem to fall under the purview of R A D K O’s concerns, though neither is necessary for the enjoyment of this dreamy track.

Buoyed by female vocals that seem transmitted from an old AM radio and cloistered choral tones, the cut adds slow-motion rhythmic elements that give it a sensual edge of danger. The video for “Orgon,” like the excellent visuals for “Cherno PPP,”was directed by Lissa Benno–who also performs solo music under the moniker Age Eternal. Drifting clouds and high altitude expanses of frigid blue combine with swirling close-ups of viscous liquid to make this an excellent accompaniment for “Orgon”‘s heady sonics.
