With Rizzla readying their Adepta LP for release on July 6th via Fade to Mind, the DJ/producer and co-founder of the queer audio/visual collective KUNQ has made the track “Black Eye” available for streaming. Discussing the upcoming debut long-player back in May with self-titled, the artist explained that leaving the over-stimulated confines of New York City to work on the album in rural New England, was a “liberating” experience. Elaborating further, Rizzla offered:

“I fear the coming decade will bring dramatic suppression of individual liberty, the subversion of freedom of expression, and the manipulation of the language of social justice by the engineers of white supremacy. ‘Adepta’ is my own attempt to face those fears and acts as a moment to study before war.”

“Black Eye” features a hard-hitting physicality and it was the first track the producer started work on for the Adepta LP. Born of their “hazy memories” of “moshpits, raver circles, [and] vogue battles,” Rizzla explained to FADER today that the cut celebrates those high energy moments in the club when “the fabric of civility starts to unravel.” Complete with ape-like yelps, elephantine drones, and panic-inducing siren sounds, “Black Eye” conjures animalistic forces. Punctuated by the heavy pounding of bass drum and kinetic rhythms, this cut could soundtrack a dance battle royale where the winner advances and losers are thrown to the lions.
