Moaning‘s self-titled debut LP is out now via Sub Pop, and this week the trio released a new video for their track “Misheard.” The band, comprised of singer/guitarist Sean Solomon, bassist Pascal Stevenson, and drummer Andrew MacKelvie, met as teenagers growing up in the San Fernando Valley and hanging out and playing at LA musical institutions like The Smell and Pehrspace. The group’s self-directed and home demolishing video for “The Same” caught the eye of veteran producer/engineer Alex Newport (Melvins, Pissed Jeans, The Locust), which led to him working with Moaning on their 2018 debut long-player.

Misheard” features Solomon’s slightly bruised and self-effacing lyrical style, and it displays the band’s ability to alternate between day-glo guitar pop and blitzkrieging Shoegaze. The video for the track is directed by the Los Angeles-based animator/designer Steve Smith, and his visuals are the perfect accompaniment. Full of Pop whimsy, Smith’s bizarre assemblages and surreal tableaus are chalk full of eye-catching detail and color as the camera twists and pans across bio-morphic shapes, dime-store trinkets, warped heads, and dead bees.
