Watch: Protovulcan “Game Over Now”

Chicago’s Protovulcan is readying their Psychic Pinball LP for release later this year and in the interim we have this new video for the album track “Game Over Now.” The band’s acid rock fueled funk is on full display here as Will MacLean deals out Moog powered basslines and heady pyrotechnics via his effects-driven Wurlitzer. Meanwhile, Deric Criss provides the kind of high octane drumming that quickly has this cut boiling over into a “multi-ball” frenzy.

The video for “Game Over Now” is directed and animated by the artist and educator Phil Hastings. Discussing his neuron melting visuals, the artist offers:

“I wanted to emulate the frenetic experiences I had with a pinball machine. It always felt out of control.”

Combining whirling geometrics, flashing grid patterns and rhythmically triggered line drawings, Hastings’ animations come complete with explosive colors sure to send you into hypnogogic overload.

If you live in the Chicago-land area you can catch Protovulcan live at the CHIRP Radio Showcase on July 17th. The show is at the Bourbon on Division with headliners Les Strychnine and Rare Ms Steak.
