The German avant-electronic label Raster is getting set to release an artist curated compilation series entitled Sichten. The series will focus on “hidden, unknown, and forgotten” aspects of electronic music in an attempt to shine a light on under-appreciated artists in the genre. The 2xLP length offerings will also be accompanied by an introductory text explaining each curator’s approach to their collection.
Look for Sichten 1 to be curated by the electronic musician and Raster co-founder Frank Bretschneider. Assembled in November of last year, the upcoming compilation will be released on September 21st. Bretschneider’s 18-track collection will feature music from six different artists: Zavoloka, Mimicof, Retina.it, Benjamin Brunn, Pierce Warnecke, and Mads Emil Nielsen.
Our first listen in on Sichten 1 comes from the Hamburg-based producer Benjamin Brunn. The artist releases music via his label Chrome Plated Diamonds and Wake Up!–a label he runs with the DJ Mark Rhein–as well as on outlets like Third Ear Recordings, Smallville and BineMusic. Active since the late 90’s, through the years Brunn has maintained a highly focused and minimalist brand of Chicago influenced House. On “Joy,” the musician foregrounds luminously toned rhythms over subtle patters of apreggiating keys, percolating bass, and foggy chord strikes.
