The Detroit-based electronic artist Shigeto will return on September 28th with a new EP entitled Weighted due out on Ghostly International. Following up on his 2017 LP The New Monday, an album that saw him collaborating with underground rappers from the city like ZelooperZ, Silas Green, and Kaleena Zanders, the upcoming effort continues Zach Saginaw’s homage to the legacy of Motor City music with an eclectic mix of electro, techno, hip-hop, and jazz.
Look for Weighted to include the brand new tracks “Fight Club,” “Ooh Ooh,” and “The Line Up,” as well as a remix of The New Monday cut “Detroit Pt. II” by house luminary Andrés. “Fight Club” is our first listen in on the EP, and it’s a rhythmic tour-de-force featuring diverse beat structures, simmering pads and funk driven bass.
In addition to news of the upcoming EP, this past July Shigeto announced that he will be hitting the road this Fall with a live band. At the time of the announcement, Saginaw explained:
“Feels like my whole life has been building up to this tour. Being able to bring my friends on the road and share a live, new ensemble based interpretation of my music has been a goal for quite some time.”
Look for Zach to be joined on the road by Marcus Elliot on woodwinds/electronics and Ian Fink on keyboards/electronics–with Shigeto handling drums/electronics.
