Detroit techno legend Jeff Mills‘ electronic jazz quartet Spiral Deluxe is readying their debut LP Voodoo Magic for release on September 7th via Mills’ label Axis Records. The quartet features Mills handling drums and programming, and he is joined by the veteran musicians Yumiko Ohno on Moog, Kenji “Jino” Hino on bass, and Gerald Mitchell on keys. Born out of Mills’ 2015 residency at the The Louvre in Paris, the quartet realizes the DJ and producer’s long-standing desire to return to his boyhood instrument–the drums. Voodoo Magic was recorded over a 2-day session at Studio Ferber in Paris with most of the tracks on the album recorded in just one take to capture the quartet’s improvisational approach to music making.
