When Aphex Twin logos and billboards started showing up last week in cities like London, Turin, Los Angeles, and New York speculation began that the artist was readying a new release. Those conjectures were confirmed today with news that Richard D. James will release a five-track EP called Collapse on September 14th via Warp Records. The announcement came with a Weirdcore directed video for the cut “T69 Collapse.” The strobbing visuals were scheduled to air on Adult Swim last night but when they didn’t pass the Harding test–a broadcast regulation that protects those who suffer from photosensitive epilepsy–the video was instead posted to YouTube.

Like Aphex Twin, Weirdcore is a mysterious and mostly anonymous artist and the pair have been working together since 2009 when Weirdcore first started creating visuals for Aphex Twin’s live shows. “T69 Collapse” is an extraordinary example of his glitched and warped vision. Featuring distorted text snippets and computer-generated 3-D imagery of UK locales– including the “Silver Box” in the Elephant and Castle roundabout that James was rumored to live in–the video is a wild, beat-triggered ride through their bizarre imagination.
