Watch: Oh Sees “Anthemic Aggressor”

This month John Dwyer‘s Oh Sees returned with a brand new LP called Smote Reverser out now on Castle Face Records. This prog-metal infused iteration of the Sees finds the band joined once again by keyboardist Tom Dolas, who also appeared on the 2017 LP Memory Of A Cut Off Head released under Dwyer’s OCS moniker. In addition, the group’s rhythmic section continues to get a double helping of drums from Dan Rincon and Paul Quattrone, while Tim Hellman returns to duties on bass. And, of course, it wouldn’t be (Thee) Oh Sees without Dwyer’s guitar shreddings and some vocal harmonies from Brigid Dawson.

This week, Oh Sees released a new video for the Smote Reverser track “Anthemic Aggressor.” The cut clocks in at over 12-minutes of interstellar overdrive, and the video, directed by Dwyer himself, also finds the musician trying his hand as puppet wrangler, set designer, and green screener. In addition, the artist Alexander Theodoropulos, who also provided visuals for past (Thee) Oh Sees videos like “The Lens” and “Nite Expo,” returns with animations for “Anthemic Aggressor.” Featuring a pair of joyriding aliens, this duo puts their craft on auto-pilot while they partake in an outer space smoke session–and the results are undeniably cosmic.
