Peripheral Minimal is a Spanish-based label dedicated to releasing Minimal Synth, Coldwave, Industrial, and Post-Punk. An off-shoot of the now defunct Bristol-based label Peripheral, which closed it’s doors in 2017, Peripheral Minimal was founded by Jason Bernard in 2013. In recent years the label has relocated its’ operations to Spain, and this month they are releasing Slovenska Televiza‘s limited edition 12″, Documento.
Slovenska Televiza is an electronic duo based out of the Spanish cities of Valladolid and Barcelona. Formed by graphic designer and vocalist Lunademayo and analog synth player Wladyslaw Trejo, Documento follows up on the pair’s inaugural 2016 single, “Bailes Valst?s” (Leipzig Inn Records). Conceived as an art/music project inspired by their Cold War imaginings of what life might be behind the Iron Curtain, the track found the pair writing lyrics in Latvian–a language neither member speaks. Once “Bailes Valst?s” was written and recorded, Lunademayo and Trejo hand-designed 35 copies of the CD and left them at various anonymous spots around the Latvian city of Riga.
Documento finds Slovenska Televiza continuing to work in a minimal, Coldwave vein with Lunademayo’s haunting vocals animated by Wladyslaw Trejo’s reverberating synth work. The duo’s debut EP was released on vinyl last week as a 5-track single-sided 12″. Limited to a run of 300 copies, the first 100 come with a signed postcard from the band. “Es el ordenador” is the initial single off the EP, and the video for the cut was created by Wiktor Stribog–the individual behind the mysterious YouTube channel Kraina Grzybów. Combining 8-bit styled animations, kaleidoscopic imagery and vintage archival footage, Striborg’s visuals are the perfect accompaniment to Slovenska Televiza’s Cold War-inspired, throwback vibe.
