Sololust returns to the Dutch label Enfant Terrible with his brand new limited edition 12″ “Dato EP” due out on September 30th. The project of Peter Baarends, the upcoming effort follows up on his previous Enfant Terrible releases: the 2015 7″ “The Sleeper Must Awake“, the 2013 12” “Untitled“, as well as his 2011 7” “Total Loss.” The duly named “Dato EP” was composed using the Dutch built Dato DUO–a kid friendly synthesizer/sequencer built for two players. The EP finds Sololust expanding upon the more synth-pop driven aspects of his output to craft a dance floor ready sound featuring elements of acid, electro, and techno.

Dato10” is the third track on the A-side, and it’s our first listen in on the forthcoming 12″. While many of the cuts on the 5-track EP feature minimalist arrangements courtesy of the DUO, “Dato10” is the only one that includes a sampled vocal track. The DUO might have been designed with kids in mind, but this cut’s chilling account of murderous obsession is anything but child-friendly. Acidic textures combine here with padded, synth-driven melancholy while propulsive and phasing rhythms add to its’ undeniably kinetic qualities.
