The synth-wave duo Peine Perdue returns to the Rotterdam-based label Electronic Emergencies this month with their new LP Tokyo en Morceaux out now on limited edition vinyl and available digitally on September 17th. Comprised of the Berlin-based musician and artist Stephane Argillet, who also DJs under the moniker Stereovoid, and the Parisian vocalist Coco Gallo, the new album follows up on the pair’s 2017 Electronic Emergencies’ EP Histoire D’une Ame. Since their inception in 2014, Peine Perdue has released a series of LPs, including the 2015 effort Disparitions on Seattle’s Medical Records, while touring extensively in Europe, Russia, and Canada.
This month Peine Perdue released a new video for the Tokyo en Morceaux track “Ombre Trouble.” With roiling synths arpeggiating dark melancholy over stark percussive arrangements, Coco Gallo provides an intimate reading excerpted from Georges Perec‘s novel, Un Homme qui dort. The video for the cut was directed by the Berlin-based film duo Distruktur and was edited by Argillet. Echoing Perec’s novel, and with visual nods to the 1974 film adaptation of the book, Argillet also stars here as “Ombre Trouble”‘s desolate protagonist. Coupled with shadowy images of Gallo performing, Argillet serves as an isolated but obsessed figure as he wanders barren city streets and a wooded park–or while smoking vacantly alone in his room.
