Greek-based post-rock trio The Fog Ensemble released their sophomore LP Throbs via Inner Ear Records today. The follow-up to their 2015 self-titled debut, the band’s newest effort was written over the last several years while living in their hometown of Thessaloniki and recorded at Shellac Recordings during a four-day period in July of 2017. The band features Antonis Karakostas on guitar, Nicholas Kondylis on bass, and George Nanopoulos on drums.

Lighthouse” is the album’s lead track and our first listen in on The Fog Ensemble’s upcoming record. Throbs was inspired by the group’s life in the city and its’ lead single feels a bit like standing atop a tall building while looking out over the misty maze of a vast urban expanse. Influenced by Shoegaze and the Manchester sound, the track combines emotive and soaring melodies with cavernous blasts of smoldering guitar work. Mostly instrumental in structure, except for a brief vocal interlude about fog banks moving “against the wind,” “Lighthouse” is rousing post-rock of the highest order.
