Helena Deland‘s EPs From The Series of Songs “Altogether Unaccompanied” Vol. III & IV came out this month on Luminelle Recordings. “Claudion” is a standout track off of “IV,” and this week the video for the cut premiered via Pitchfork TV. Discussing the song, Deland revealed that it is about “the constancy of my relying on and trusting in my cousin Claudia.” Marveling at the closeness of their relationship, the video for the song documents a favorite childhood past time for the girls. Helena explains:
“I have no footage of the choreography we’d make up and practice for months before we’d present them to our dads’ side of the family at Christmas, so this is a selfish homage to one of the ways we’d spend endless time around the age of 10.”
Directed by Bronwyn Ford, and with choreography by Rachel Giles, the visuals star the musician alongside her cousin, Claudia Picard-Deland. Depicting the by-gone era of their youthful time together, the video’s filmic quality brings to mind old home movies shot on Super 8. Capturing the cloistered innocence of childhood, the pair’s undeniable bond takes center stage in this intimate portrayal of their familial friendship.
Helena Deland is currently touring Europe and on Wednesday, October 31st she will appear at Pitchfork’s Avant Garde Festival in Paris. In addition, this coming November the musician will kick off some live dates in Canada before traveling to the States for a short tour that includes stops in the Midwest, Northeast, and California.
