Kelly Moran will follow-up her outstanding 2017 LP Bloodroot (Telegraph Harp) with a new long-player entitled Ultraviolet due out via Warp Records on November 2nd. Inspired by a deep listening experience she had last year in the forests around her childhood home on Long Island, Moran sought a music that sounded “natural, connected, and effortless.” Discussing the upcoming album, the composer/instrumentalist explains:
“By re-examining my process as an artist, I freed myself. Accordingly, I ended up making songs that were more untethered, less inhibited.”
On the album’s first single “In Parallel,” she does just that. Lush, echoing lines, played on various synthesizers seem to run side-by-side. The track’s compounding textures combine with the composition’s growing complexity to create a seemingly acoustic biosphere. The result is transcendent, and resoundingly emotive, in a way that experimental music rarely is. The video for the track is directed by the interactive installation studio Dave & Gabe, and is inspired by her upcoming live shows. Like the audio, entrancing lines and curves of glowing color become increasingly complex as they reach eye melting crescendos of light and texture.
Kelly Moran will play Ultraviolet live in it’s entirety later this Fall in California and New York…
