Finlay Shakespeare is readying his 2xLP Domestic Economy for release on February 1st via Editions Mego. The UK-based musician released several albums under the moniker Future Image back in 2007-8. In addition, he also runs Future Sound Systems, an independent musical device manufacturer responsible for modular hardware like The Gristleizer–a series of Eurorack modules based on an effects unit used and adapted by Chris Carter of Throbbing Gristle.
Domestic Economy was recorded live with all of its’ original material improvised. Mastered by the multidisciplinary artist/musician Russell Haswell, the upcoming 2xLP also features artwork by Nik Void (Factory Floor/Carter Tutti Void). “Lule†” is our first listen in on the album and the track demonstrates Shakespeare’s talent for a brand of experimental synth-pop that contains plenty of nods to the history of the genre while standing squarely in the present. Rippling bass lines crisscross deftly programmed rhythms and intricate melodic detail, while the musician’s ecstatically delivered vocals give the cut a rousing rally cry.
