YOY is a hard-rockin’ punk three-piece from Seattle, and on November 17th they will release their EP The Inner Journey Goes Wrong via local label Den Tapes. Featuring Moe Kogano on vocals/bass, Daniel Seah on vocals/guitar, and Connor Satyro on drums, these three transplants originally hail from Canada, Japan, and Malaysia respectively. YOY’s upcoming 7-track EP release was recorded, mixed, and mastered by the band this summer, and the result is an amplifier worshiping homage to the Emerald Cities’ grungy roots.
“Battle Royale” is our first listen in on the effort and it’s a no-holds-barred foray into the trio’s ear mangling sound. Seah bangs out blunt edged chords to open the cut and as they collide with bass and drums in a rear-ending pile-up, Moe Kogano launches into a hyper-caffeinated tirade. Dancing around the splintering glass and twisted metal, she spits verses with unabashed exuberance before hitting the brakes to slide into a fish-tailing chorus. Veering between high-speed mayhem and slow-motion wreckage, YOY’s “Battle Royale” is a demolition derby of sound sure to leave you with a head pounding case of sonic whiplash.
YOY is currently wrapping up a West Coast tour before heading back to Seattle for a Record Release Show at Cafe Racer on November 17th. You can check out the band’s upcoming live dates after the Bandcamp embed below…
