HXXS, the experimental electronic duo comprised of members Jeannie Colleene and Gavin Neves, signed with Captured Tracks this week. The pair is currently readying their MKDRONE EP for release on December 7th via the label. Recorded in a cramped San Jose warehouse space that shared a wall with a porn studio–while one of the HXXS suffered through an inoperable tooth infection– the 6-track EP is a dizzying collection of deliciously screwed pop.
“Seppuku” is our first listen in on the upcoming release. Named after a Japanese form of suicide by disembowelment, the track is a feverish display of the duo’s loop-based, hardware-driven electronics. The video for the cut was directed by Anders Ericsson and it often echoes the duo’s looped sound using animated, GIF-like imagery. Full of shuddering stutters and flickering stops and starts, Ericsson’s video catches Colleene and Neves in various moments of off-handed repose and contorted release as they blink and jump in static agitation.
HXXS play The Way Out Club in St. Louis, MO tonight, and they will join the final Captured Tracks show at Baby’s All Right on November 11th–playing alongside Drahla and Wax Chattels. You can check out a full list of the duo’s upcoming live dates after the YouTube embed below…
