Michelle Blades is currently readying her Visitor LP for release on March 29th via the French label Midnight Special Records. The self-taught multi-instrumentalist currently resides in Paris, but the Panamanian-born musician has led quite the nomadic life. Including time spent in her mother’s home country of Mexico, she has also lived in Florida–where her family escaped from Manuel Noriega’s dictatorship–as well as Arizona, a locale she credits with introducing her to underground and alternative culture. When she’s not busy playing bass with the acclaimed French artist Fishbach, Blades also makes time for her own releases–including her 2017 LP Premature Love Songs (Midnight Special Records).

While the upcoming album has already yielded an open-air, La Blogothèque performance of the song “Ring,” this week Michelle Blades released a new video for the track “Kiss me on the mouth.” Sketched out during sound checks while on tour, the visuals for the cut were filmed in Mexico City by the collective Fuerza Basicas. Featuring Blades as she moves effortlessly across a minimal but artfully designed stage-set, before assuming her place as guitar hero under neon lights, the musician’s continuously shifting wardrobe changes seem to echo this song’s pointed exploration of the disguises we wear while navigating our most intimate relationships.
