Lorem is a music centered multidisciplinary project helmed by the Italian musician and visual artist Francesco D’Abbraccio. Known as one half of the electronic duo Aucan, D’Abbraccio’s new project finds him teaming up with an array of artists and engineers to create an AI-driven audio/visual experience. Joining forces with AI artists Mario Klingemann and Damien Henry, video artists Karol Sudolski and Mirek Hardiker, information engineer researcher Nicola Cattabiani and musical instrument designer Luca Pagan, the group’s collaborative platform will yield the A/V work Adversarial Feelings in the coming year. Consisting of “8 visionary broken tracks” in SD card + book format, look for Adversarial Feelings to come out via Undisclosed Recipient/Krisis Publishing on February 13th.
“3402 SELVES SUBS” is the first in a series of 8 videos included on the release. The images were produced using an AI designed by D’Abbraccio and Nicola Cattabiani. Employing an “elastic LERP” algorithm trained on thousands of pictures of celebrities, the AI generates completely synthesized images synched to the music through “transient-led analyses of the audio source.” With no human editing involved, the result is a psychedelic visual experience that melts everyday and familiar imagery into hybridized formations that are both eerie and bizarre.
