Watch: Writhing Squares “Steely Eyed Missile Man”

Writhing Squares are back this year with a new album entitled Out Of The Ether out now on Trouble In Mind Records. The Philly-based duo features bassist Daniel Provenzano (Purling Hiss, Spacin, Rosali & the Middlemen) and saxophonist Kevin Nickles (Ecstatic Vision, Taiwan Housing Project). In 2015 the pair self-released their “Gemini Blues” 7-inch, and in 2016 they followed it up with their In The Void Above LP on Siltbreeze. Out Of The Ether is the band’s sophomore effort and their first for the Chicago label Trouble In Mind.

The video for “Steely Eyed Missle Man” was directed, filmed, and edited by Ricky Culp. Featuring Provenzano’s snarling basslines and Nickles howling sax, the duo sure cooks up a cosmic and hard-driving squall on the cut. The video features the pair plying their sonic trade, and it is intercut with archival footage of those steely-eyed missile men building, and eventually launching, their rocket–just as Writhing Squares blast off for outer space, themselves.
