Beechwood‘s debut LP Trash Glamour was recorded in 2013 when the band’s Gordon Lawrence and Isa Tineo were still only in their teens. Laid down over a summer in Lawrence’s basement using a single microphone, the band’s raucous first album was initially only released on cassette. However, Trash Glamour has recently been remastered and on February 8th Alive Naturalsound Records will release the LP on vinyl for the first time.

Born out of the innocence of youth and fueled by that teenage feeling that anything is possible, Beechwood’s initial foray into recording might have been lo-fi but the resulting tracks burn with raw conviction. Subsisting on a steady diet of The Stooges’ Raw Power and The Rolling Stones’ Exile On Main St., the boys set-up a makeshift basement studio and got down to recording their ideal rock album. Lawrence explains:

“We surrounded ourselves with friends, girls, drugs, alcohol and the ideas flowed. I hardly ever remember leaving the basement, though I assume we must have eaten and slept at some point that summer. Things were still fresh at the time, grudges didn’t exist, and things (and substances) that eventually became problems were just being discovered. And so, we made a loud, raw rock & roll record with little regard for “production quality.” We pushed our music and our minds into the red, and though it took ourselves almost three years to come down from what began with this record to eventually make Songs From The Land of Nod, none of us regret a thing.”

Below, you can check out Beechwood’s Trash Glamour track “I Can’t Stop It.” Blurry eyed and a little wobbly for the wear, the cut chugs along on the heady fumes of excess. And while you might hear the band still trying to find their legs so to speak, it’s obvious they’ve stumbled on some powerful magic here…
