Johnny Jewel might still be busy doing his best Kevin Shields impersonation as he keeps us on pins and needles awaiting the arrival of Chromatics long promised Dear Tommy LP. While we wait, though, the enigmatic producer has been kind enough to drop a few singles and videos like 2018’s “Blue Girl” and “Black Walls” along the way. This week Chromatics released the new single/video “Time Rider,” and announced their first-ever, full US tour.
The last time the Chromatics appeared on stage was for the Roadhouse scenes in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: The Return series, so the upcoming Double Exposure tour will be the band’s first public shows in over five years. Planned as an audiovisual experience, the performances will include films by Johnny Jewel mixed live by the video artist Danny Perez (Antibirth, Panda Bear). Additionally, Chromatics will be joined on tour by labelmates Desire and In Mirrors.
Chromatics’ video for “Time Rider” is directed by the the band and it features the group’s ever-elusive singer Ruth Radelet. Color-treated in neon pink and icy blue, she appears spectral and remote but impossibly alluring. Haunted by a “yesterday” she can’t escape and willing to do anything just “to get away,” she longs for the Time Rider to take her “into the storm.”
