Sometimes things seem to arrive to our inbox from outer space. Witness, Emu. Okay, while this duo hails from Milan, Italy and not Cosmos Redshift 7, these two cats are definitely way out. Last January they dropped a self-titled LP, with a very strange video for the album track “Corda Rotta.” This year the pair are readying a follow-up LP EMU II, and they recently dropped a new video for the album’s first single “Cybernarvalo.”
Utilizing a drum set connected together by pneumatic tubing, various synthesizers, the occasional saxophone played thru a bullhorn, as well as a hand drill and food processor, the duo deconstructs their music into various zones of differentiating dynamics. Drifting along in abstract sonic weirdness via an oboe and bassoon, on the drop of the dime this pair picks up a maniacal bassline and rides it into the stratosphere. Melding elements of jazz, metal, punk, and noise, “Cybernarvalo” is audacious, to say the least.
