DMBQ offer sonic and visual evidence that Rock & Roll can, indeed, still save your soul! Not sure how I missed the band’s 2018 2xLP Keeenly, out on Ty Segall‘s Drag City affiliated God? label, but I will definitely be making up for lost time now. Hailing from Tokyo, and kicking around since 1989, the band’s moniker stands for Dynamite Masters Blues Quartet. Playing 70’s style rock in the vein of acts like Deep Purple, Uriah Heap, and Nazareth, the group injects their heavy metal with the wild, chaotic energies of punk.

Discussing the group and record, Ty Segall explains:

“There is no band like DMBQ. They are unique destroyers of sound, and lovers of sonic beauty, existing in the places between. Masters of harsh tone and psychotic rhythm. Keeenly is an alien planet type record, evoking images of landscapes and weather patterns found in other galaxies. Purple wind and green fire.”

If you don’t believe the God?-man himself, this video for “No Things” is all the proof you should need. Culling together live footage from DMBQ’s legendary past, all suffused with glitchy VHS stylings, this band’s blistering acid rock and riotous live performances are sure to deliver a karate kick to your third eye.
