Here’s a tasty little treat from NYC’s The Mystery Lights. The group is readying a new LP entitled Too Much Tension! due out May 10th on Daptone’s rock-centric imprint, Wick Records. In anticipation of the upcoming album, the group has a brand new single/video for the track “Someone Else is in Control.” The Mystery Lights are also heading off to SXSW this month and they have more dates planned on their 2019 US tour.
“Someone Else is in Control” combines the band’s funk-fueled psychedelic bent with a punkier, urban edge to create a track that walks a highwire of angst and tension. The video for the cut was directed by Rob Weird and it combines those aesthetics into some seriously lo-fi, visual fun. Trippy images of the band jamming and occasionally animated elements combine while someone in an ape costume plays the beast inside.
