The Mystery Lights are readying their Too Much Tension! LP for release on May 10th via the Daptone imprint, Wick Records. Today we listen to the band’s newest offering from the album, “Traces.” Following up on the previous singles from the record “I?m so Tired (Of Living in the City)” and “Someone Else is in Control,” this new track continues to blend their 60s style sonic approach with NYC fueled punk.

The album was produced by Wayne Gordon at Daptone’s House of Soul, and “Traces” shows off just what a masterful job he’s done. The use of vintage gear shines through here, but in a really exciting way that lends the song genuine energy and texture. With vocals and guitar continuously pushing into the red in a slow smoldering fury, as well as this cut’s penchant for some off-kilter tunings, the recording and mixing must have offered some unique challenges. Rest assured, though, “Traces” is perfectly calibrated to deliver an ear-ripping sound.
