Fidelity Kastrow is readying her “Daughter of Darkness” EP for release on April 26th via Novamute. The Berlin-raised DJ, producer, and radio host also attended East Berlin’s prestigious Spezialschule für Musikerziehung where she studied piano, voice, and composition. Since 2007, though, Fidelity Kastrow has held DJ-residencies in Berlin and London (Sisyphos, Egg London, Tresor, Torture Garden) while performing around the world at festivals like Milkshake (Netherlands), Melt (Germany), Exit (Serbia) and Electric Jungle Music Festival (China).
“Daughter of Darkness” follows up on Kastrow’s 2015 Sisyphon release “Full Moon Falcon,” and it is her first for Novamute. As a regular DJ at Sisyphos, in their warehouse-sized main room Hammahalle, Kastrow assures us her three new tracks have been battle tested in the club’s cavernous surroundings. That’s immediately evident on the EP’s title track where immaculately produced percussion meets blistering industrial tones and ghostly noise to create a minimalist, spell-binding techno.
Discussing the “Daughter of Darkness,” as well as the track which follows, “The Huntress,” Kastrow explains that they are “intuitively inspired by that Sunday daytime vibe, where it might be daylight outside but people like me prefer to hang out in dark, industrial cave-like warehouse spaces, sweat and shuffle their dusty feet alongside other like-minded souls.” It’s a noble sentiment, and the producer delivers in spades with this searing new cut.
