The Berlin-based DJ and producer La Fraicheur will return on May 10th with a new EP entitled “Weltschmerz” out via InFiné. The upcoming release follows up on her 2018 debut LP Self Fulfilling Prophecy which was written during a residency with the Berlin-Detroit Connection (the organization founded by Mike Banks (UR) and Dimitri Hegemann (Tresor) at their Underground Resistance HQ in Detroit.
In addition to her production work, La Fraicheur has been an in-demand DJ for over ten years having worked in Paris, Montreal, and now Berlin. A queer feminist activist and member of the Female:Pressure network, she is a regular DJ at Berlin kink parties like Gegen, Pornceptual, and House of Red Doors. Formerly a resident at the Berlin club Mensch Meier, for their Wilde Renate events, La Fraicheur’s busy tour schedule now keeps her on the road too often.
“Weltschmerz” was written in the musician’s home studio as well as while on the road between Berlin, New York, and Mexico. Seeking a “no mercy” take on techno, the four new tracks are also an aggressive clap back against the misogynistic internet trolls that have sprung up in the wake of her successful 2018 LP. The cover art designed by Lurhi Peña which you can check out below, says a lot; and La Fraicheur follows it up with a pummeling brand of techno and angst-filled electro sure to silence the trolls.
