Tzusing is a Chinese-based techno producer/ DJ, and today we watch his wicked new video for the track “Circa Taipei.” The cut is off a split-12″ that pairs Tzusing with the Berlin-based artist M.E.S.H.–the first EP in a club-ready series of white label releases from PAN. Tzusing’s brand of techno is charged by his unique perspective on the genre, and he combines searing, bass-charged atmospheres with a variety of Asian influenced instrumentation, melody, and rhythm.
The video for “Circa Tapes” was directed by Nathan Rickard. Like the production value in Tzusing’s music, it is imbued with a high-tech, ultra-modern gleam. Combining uncanny environments, various technological apparatuses, and a sci-fi vibe, Rickard builds a strange narrative littered with clues. However, with these places and objects seemingly only tangentially related, and the video’s characters mostly only hinted at in framed pictures, “Circa Tapes” mysterious and open storyline seems to invite a variety of interpretation.
