Alex Albrecht pres. MelquÃades‘ “Excerpts” EP came out via the NYC label Scissor And Thread late last month. Combining a futurist meets tropical vibe set against a back drop of luminously lit Deep House makes this perfect late night listening. Albrecht last appeared on the label under his MelquÃades guise in 2018 with his “Blue Caves” EP.
Discussing this newest effort, he explains: “The idea behind this EP was to capture moments and “excerpts” of my improvised live set. I’ve used field recordings from a number of places from around the world as inspiration (including my recent visit to New York for the last S&T Tour) for the individual tracks – there’s a variety of genres within the release but essentially they were just improvised extended jam sessions. I then chose some interesting excerpts for the record.”
Wandering down “Schaefer Street” reveals this is not your average city block. Suffused in a crepuscular glow of glimmering pads and whispered melody, the track’s steady pulse of kick and hi-hat provides an irresistible push into the growing darkness. Detroit-based producer Patrice Scott provides the remix here, and his addition of jazzy chord fills just furthers this cut’s sultry feel.
