!!! (Chk Chk Chk) tap the current mood with a new video for “UR Paranoid.” Nic Offer and company recognize that ‘noiding-out has become the zeitgeist. Sure, you could go off the grid in search of relief, but instead off dropping out this band’s mantra is more like “turn on, tune in, dance your ass off.” And that’s a slogan we can definitely get behind!
Part of the double A-side single “UR Paranoid/Off the Grid” that we told you about last week, this week the group explains:
“It’s rare that you finish a song knowing exactly who you want to direct the video, but that’s exactly what happened with UR paranoid, and we were lucky to get our friend Amanda Lovejoy Street to direct the clip.”
Offer stars here as Master of Ceremonies bringing the boogey as only he can, but something seems different. Dude’s paranoid…banging his head on broken mirrors and throwing a seizure on the dance floor. Can’t really blame him, though. When everyone around you is wearing a mask, how’s a guy to be real?
If you need further insight into this video’s strange milieu, the director offers: “The video is a nod to experimental theater, low budget psychological horror films, Saul Steinberg, Carl Jung.” Yeah, so dig it.
