METZ dropped this killer video for the track “Dry Up” last week. The Toronto-based three piece is currently working on their fourth LP, and Sub Pop reports the full-length will come out when the band is “damn good and ready.” Luckily, till then, we have Automat–a collection of non-album singles, B-sides, and rarities dating back to 2009–due out July 17th via the label.

According to Sub Pop, included on Automat will be: “…the band’s first three 7” singles, recorded 2009-2010 and originally released by We Are Busy Bodies Records; a demo version of “Wet Blanket,” the explosive single from 2012’s METZ; two tracks from the limited-edition bonus single that accompanied preorders of METZ; “Can’t Understand,” originally released in 2013 by [adult swim]; and both tracks from the band’s 2015 single on Three One G.”

In addition, vinyl copies of the record will also have “a bonus single that includes three additional tracks: a cover of Sparklehorse’s “Pig,” from a very limited 2012 Record Store Day split single originally released by Toronto’s Sonic Boom record shop; “I’m a Bug,” a cover of The Urinals’ art-punk classic, originally released on YouTube (not an actual record label) in 2014; and METZ’s previously unreleased rendition of Gary Numan’s “M.E.

While that should be more than enough formative METZ to keep you busy this summer, don’t miss the awesome video for the cut “Dry Up.” Off a 2009 7″ that included “Ripped on the Fence,” originally out on We Are Busy Bodies Records, you can hear a band definitely rooted in the early Sub Pop sound, but committed to pushing it forward in compelling new ways. The video is directed by Alex Edkins with editing, animation, and compositing by Nick Sewell. Using a graphic style that animates a series of stills from the band’s live shows and tours, tweaked effects and tight editing make this one of our favorite videos of the year so far.
