Heron is currently readying their Sun Release LP and the upcoming effort is due out July 19th. In addition, the Pennsylvania-based post-rock quartet has announced summer tour dates with Man Mountain. You can check out the band’s upcoming live schedule below, as well as preview their anthemic title track “Sun Release.”
Heron includes Ben Blick on guitar and his brother Nathaniel on drums, as well as Boyd Lewis on guitar and Eric Morelli on bass. The Blick brothers started out in their teenage years playing old-school hardcore in a converted shed on their parents rural property in northwestern Pennsylvania. They would go on to adopt a more post-rock and progressive approach by the mid 00’s, before adding Lewis on guitar and forming Heron in 2015. With the addition of Morelli on bass the group was complete, and they began work on their excellent debut, You Are Here Now.
Sun Release finds Heron continuing to hone their expansive and instrumental approach. The band’s compositional prowess has an organic feel across the record and seems to be born from their years together, now, as a group. The album was recorded live by Justin Rose at GCR Audio in Buffalo, NY. Mixed by Matt Bayles at Red Room Recording in Seattle, WA, it was mastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios in London, England.
