Because everything is better with Butter, today we bring you “Nicotine.” Besides being a delicious dairy product, Butter is also an alt-rock three-piece from Portland, OR. Comprised of Aaron Schmidt on guitar/vocals, Thomas Shipley on bass, and Jarrett Tracy on drums, the trio has been gaining recognition since 2015 playing Portland venues and house shows.
“Nicotine” is off the band’s upcoming EP of the same name due out August 29th. The trio’s amalgam of musical interests is definitely apparent on the upcoming five-track effort, but on “Nicotine” they show off some serious ’80s pop style. Discussing the song via Facebook, the group explains:
“this song is about using a shitty moment to give into your vice, but also talk yourself down and say “its all gonna be ok”. it’s a reminder to focus not on the times you were stripped of your self worth, but to lean into the community you surround yourself with.”
Butter’s effortless blending of influences means that even though this track deals with difficult issues of “addiction and rediscovering self-confidence,” there is the kind of breezy accessibility that makes this the perfect summer cut to have on repeat.
