Hello, and welcome to the last days…just don’t eat those seductively green apples! Blanck Mass returns this year with a new LP entitled Animated Violence Mild out August 16th via Sacred Bones. The solo project of Fuck Buttons’ Benjamin John Power, the upcoming album is his first since releasing the 2017 effort World Eater on the label.
“Love Is a Parasite” is a chromatically charged and wild ride. Cinematic in scope, it’s the kind of high energy cut that should soundtrack a harrowing chase sequence in which the movie’s hero narrowly escapes would be capture through a series pratfalls and hijinks. And, while colorfully lit with a dizzying array of synth leads, Power has a way of scouring his sound in bit-crushed blasts of noise without losing this track’s “big screen” feel.
The video for “Love Is a Parasite” was directed by Craig Murray. This spoof of an infomercial gone awry provides a hilarious behind the scenes on the set of a low-budget shoot hocking beautiful green apples. Hilariously droll in its’ portrayal of commercial culture, the video shows that the things we crave might not just be “empty,” but instead, insidious to the core.
