The French musical collective Oiseaux-Tempête is readying their fourth studio LP From Somewhere Invisible for release on October 11th via Sub Rosa. The album finds core members Frédéric D. Oberland and Stéphane Pigneul joined by Jean-Michel Pires (Bruit Noir), Mondkopf, and G.W.Sok (The Ex). Recorded in Montreal at the famed Hotel2Tango studio, From Somewhere Invisible finds the collective also joined by Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem In My Heart) and Jessica Moss (Thee Silver Mt. Zion).
In anticipation of the new record, today we check out the Oiseaux-Tempête video for the powerful track “He Is Afraid And So Am I.” The visuals find As Human Pattern (Gregoire Orio and Gregoire Couvert) returning to do the directorial honors. Using found film sources, the pair have crafted the perfect visual analog for this compelling cut.
G.W.Sok’s spoken lyrics ponder whether the stranger sitting at the next table over “…is the mirror by which I see myself;” before realizing: “He is afraid/And so am I.” As Human Pattern follow suit with archival footage of men performing military exercises and families vacationing to deliver an intriguing visual study of how our tribal loyalties hold us in a state of fear and anxiety. Coupled with G.W.Sok’s poetic delivery and the band’s pyrotechnic performance, this video stands as one of the best of the year!
