The Japanese producer Noah has a new video for her track “像自己 xiangziji,” off the upcoming LP Thirty due out October 18th via Flau Records. Hailing from Hokkaido, the snowy and idyllic Northern-most island of Japan, the artist’s upcoming effort was created during a three-year stint living in Tokyo that concluded when the artist turned thirty. Informed by the natural beauty of her birthplace, as well as the seductive attraction of Tokyo, Thirty is a hazy-eyed love letter to the city that combines rhythmic electro-pop with her captivating vocal abilities.
On “像自己 xiangziji” arpeggiating synths flicker like neon as 808-style drums thread through the track with an urban pulse. Meanwhile, Noah’s vocals burst across the night sky in a scintillating upper register that is both icy and inviting. The video for the cut is directed by the Canadian-based artist John Smith, who has also done video work for Teen Ravine, Jessy Lanza, and Junior Boys. Combining video shot by Takehito Goto and Noah herself, as well as 8mm footage from Ryan Ferguson, Smith uses glitched effects, split screens, and vintage 8-bit visuals to create a video that pulses with the electric energy of Japan’s capital city.
