MANASYt returns with his Inferior Subjects limited edition cassette via the Dutch label Musar Recordings on December 6th. The work of Bulgarian electro-synth pioneer Petar Tassev, this sophomore effort follows up on his 2017 12″ EP for the label, “Reality Defense Department.” Additionally, Inferior Subjects is the inaugural release from MUSAR’s new limited edition cassette series focusing on the “wonderful weird side of electronic music.”
Inferior Subjects collects together 8 previously unreleased tracks recorded between 2000-2010. Recently discovered on one of the producer’s old PCs, the collection features club-ready tracks brimming with electro elements and a post-punk vibe. MANASYt’s uncluttered approach to production is on full display throughout and this lucid sonic style renders his aural world with tense clarity.
The track “Daylight For 15 Seconds” is inspired by the 2005 Belgian film Nuit Noire. A crystalline arpeggiation ascends and descends as a kick and snare mark out a sparse rhythm. Eventually, droplets of melody fall from the ether only to freeze into icy patterns upon contact with this dark world of sound. Meanwhile, a tension abides, and time stretches out into an expectant waiting that brims with anticipation.
