The Seattle psych outfit Forest Ray has a new video for their track “Am I Dying?” off the group’s upcoming “Wedgwood Tapes” EP. Filmed on Super 8 and staring the band’s Peter Sumic, the visuals were filmed during a 2019 tour of the Midwest and South promoting their “What Goes Down” split 7″ with Lasso Spells out on Cold Lunch Recordings. Featuring footage from the group’s record release show in Nashville, it also includes a stop at White Sands National Park in New Mexico. With Sumic on the hunt for some serious psychotropics, his visit to the dessert is also a trip down the proverbial “rabbit hole.”
“Wedgwood Tapes” was recorded in Peter Sumic’s basement. Reflecting his interest in vintage analog recording, the EP was, as the title would suggest, laid down on reel-to-reel tape. “Am I Dying?” finds the band exploring their prog-leanings, as this psychedelic fantasia comes complete with flute and organ. Meanwhile, glowing embers of guitar spiral in the night air as reverb-laden vocals provide the perfect lullaby for this trippy fever dream.
