“Baby Chiffon, what are you on?” Leave it to Oceans of the Moon to ask the difficult questions on their self-titled debut out now on Castle Face Records. The trio includes Rick Pelletier (Six Finger Satellite, Landed, The Chinese Stars), Dare Matheson (Made In Mexico), and Jon Loper (Made In Mexico, Six Finger Satellite). Playing a scavenged array of instruments including guitar, drums, and synth, the group’s debut is billed as a “fine sizzling grease pit of cyber punk.”
“Baby Chiffon” demonstrates just what kind of pill-warped sonic madness these cats are up to. Funked-up low-end and sulfur smoking guitar make for a devilish good-time, while somebody wonders about the track’s heroine in a tweaked falsetto. Animator Devin Flynn provides some amazing visuals here. When Baby finds herself a little under the weather she reaches for her magic pill, only to drop it. Carted off by a black widow spider, the madness is just beginning…
