Wladyslaw Trejo returns this month under his solo guise to release a new single entitled “MOVIDA,” as well as a video for the track. The Spanish-based musician is one half of the synth-wave duo Slovenska Televiza with graphic designer and vocalist Lunademayo. On this new cut, though, the analog synth player explores his punker side with plenty of brooding industrial electronics and strident vocals helping to create an unsettling mood.
“MOVIDA”‘s propulsive rhythm and swirling arpeggios are the perfect soundtrack for this vintage chase scene from the 1987 film Verlierer, directed by Bernd Schadewald. Discussing the visuals, Trejo explains: “Movida narrates the difficulties of being young, going out to party, and becoming involved in a fight without looking for one.” Following a young protagonist who leaves home only to find himself in trouble with an older gang of teens, this cut’s defiant sonic edge drives the boy’s harrowing escape.
Look for Wladyslaw Trejo’s “MOVIDA” to come out as a limited edition split-7″ with Groupe de Recherches Musicales member Alexandre Bazin also featured on the release. Issued in a run of 300 and due out November 22nd via the label Polytechnic Youth, gold vinyl copies are hand-stamped and numbered in gold-colored sleeves. Additionally, “MOVIDA” comes in advance of an upcoming EP effort arriving via the label in 2020.
