Celia Hollander has a new single entitled “Spared Time” off her upcoming LP Recent Futures due out March 6th via Leaving Records. We last heard from the LA-based composer and artist with her project $3.33 and the 2017 release Draft (Leaving). Hollander’s newest effort is an extended meditation on time and it finds the musician exploring “different type of temporal movement: a swing between the recent past and near future, an accelerating present, a temporal eddy, a juxtaposition between massive and microscopic durations, a flowing momentum and a preserved stillness.”
If I had to guess, I’d say “Spared Time” is of the “temporal eddy” sort. Arpeggiating sound sources play off each other to create a gently swirling vortex of sound. The result is like finding a hidden pool off the main river of Time–a slow eddying reprieve from the fast moving undercurrent. The perfect place to laze away and watch the clouds pass, “Spared Time” is a benevolent respite from temporal rigors!
Celia Hollander is also a resident DJ over at Dublab, so don’t miss her work there. In addition, this coming March 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th, she will be hosting a live residency at Zebulon in LA, with an opening slot for Fennesz also booked at the cafe on March 7th.
