Gaytheist to Release ‘How Long Have I Been On Fire?’ LP Via Hex Records

Gaytheist is readying the release of their How Long Have I Been On Fire? LP via Hex Records on April 20th. This will be the trio’s fifth long-player and their first for the now Portland-based label. After several years living apart, guitarist/vocalist Jason Rivera, bassist/vocalist Tim Hoff, and drummer/vocalist Nick Parks assembled in Vancouver, WA last year to write this newest effort. Recorded with engineer Stephan Hawkes, the album was recorded on the last weekend of June 2019.

The Dark Deep” is our first listen in on HLHIBOF?. While the band’s last effort, 2017’s Let’s Jam Again Soon (Good To Die Records) found the gent’s laying down some wickedly doom-laden metal on a track like “Let’s Get Astrophysical,” this new cut is less bass-driven. Instead, suffocating low-end is exchanged for a dexterous brand of pyrotechnic and hard-driving rock. While muscular bass-lines still underpin the track, Rivera’s day-lit guitar pirouettes in surprising directions while his vocals ring out with clarity rather than a growl.
